Memà

Memà is a bistro located in the historical centre of Caltagirone. A place whose guests can enjoy a delicious dinner prepared with fresh ingredients while sipping a drink as they relax in a modern, welcoming and tastefully furnished environment. In this project I was tasked with creating the brand of the bistro, in line with the design developed by Ignazio Sceletta

Mema Caltagirone - Barbara Scerbo

In Sicilian mema’ means ‘my (me) mother (ma’)’ – it is on the basis of the deep bond that a child has with their mother that I designed the brand.

One of the typical situations of a mother and her child is that of walking hand in hand, a sweet gesture of protection. The space shaped by the two joined bodies constitutes an M, the initial of mema’. Both the shape and the flow of the logo are intended to strongly refer to the geographical location of Caltagirone, which lays on three hills, and to some architectural elements typical of the dome-shaped Palchetto, a beautiful gazebo, located in the town’s own public garden. The logo honours the bond with one’s mother but also the bond with one’s land, often described as motherland.
